The safety of children and young people is everyone’s responsibility. All children and young people who attend services, events, programs and community spaces have the right to feel safe and be heard.

Our commitment to child safety

Through the implementation of the Victorian Government's Child Safe Standards, we are helping to keep children and young people safe. We are required by law to implement the 11 Child Safe Standards, in order to protect children and young people from harm.

The safety of children and young people is everyone’s responsibility. The following resources provide excellent information for individuals and families:

  • Kids Helpline - is a free 24/7, private counselling service specifically for children and young people aged 5 to 25 years. They can be contacted for any reason via online chat, phone, or email.
  • eHeadspace - National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing free and confidential phone and online service for young people 12-25 years. online counselling 1800 650 890 (9am-1am)
  • Beyond Blue – provides access to support and resources to improve mental health. The Beyond Blue Support Service is available 24/7 for brief counselling. Call 1300 22 4636.
  • Lifeline – providing all Australians experiencing emotional distress with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services. Call 13 11 14.

Indigo Shire Council is required by law to implement the 11 Child Safe Standards, in order to protect children and young people from harm. 

How to report a child safe concern or complaint

If the immediate safety of a child or young person is compromised, or they are in immediate risk of danger or harm, please call Victoria Police on 000.
