Gender Equality
We are dedicated to ensuring that every individual in our community is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness. As we develop our plans, strategies, and services, we will actively consider the gender, equality, and diversity of all people, recognising the unique experiences shaped by intersectionality.
Our focus areas include:
- A comprehensive policy and planning framework that commits the Council to addressing gender equality and other forms of disadvantage linked to intersectionality.
- Strong leadership commitment, capability, and accountability to drive meaningful change.
- A supportive organisational culture that values and promotes gender equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Empowering people leaders and key staff with the understanding, commitment, confidence, and skills needed to advance gender equality actions, including conducting Gender Impact Assessments.
- Implementing policies and systems that create a foundation for effective action towards progress in gender equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Together, we strive to create an environment where everyone feels valued and included, and where equality is embedded in everything we do.

Our Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP) provides the fundamental framework by which we will navigate and accelerate our gender equality journey. We want to ensure we have the skills and resources to accelerate strategic, sustainable and meaningful change. An action plan pinpoints our efforts to improve gender equality in our workplaces. The priority, sequencing and timing of initiatives take account of potential impact, level of stakeholder support, timing of, and synergies with, other People and Culture or change initiatives, complexity of work and implementation challenges / barriers, availability of resources and regulatory and other external drivers.
Gender Impact Assessments (GIA's) help Council to see how its policies, programs and services might impact different people in different ways. If council does not consider how its work affects different people, we might unintentionally create or reinforce inequalities. Undertaking GIA's ensure better and fairer outcomes for everyone.
Every two years Council must report to the Gender Equality Commission on our Gender Impact Assessment progress.
