Two local cricket clubs are set for significant facility upgrades thanks to funding from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Community Cricket Program.
Indigo Shire Council successfully secured $200,000 in grant funding to upgrade the training nets at Beechworth and Barnawartha Cricket Clubs.
Each club will receive $100,000, which along with Council and club contributions, will see the existing facilities demolished and replaced with new ones designed to Cricket Australia Community Cricket Facility Guidelines.
Mayor Bernard Gaffney says the funding is a real boost for these local clubs, which are at the heart and soul of each town.
“These clubs benefit our communities in so many ways – through the obvious physical benefits but also in providing opportunities to socialise and connect with team mates, friends and supporters. By investing in these facilities, we’re helping to keep our communities healthy on a number of different levels so this is a fantastic outcome for these clubs.”
