Friends of the Burke Museum

The Friends of the Burke Museum, Inc. (the Friends) is a community organisation that exists to support the Burke Museum and its mission.

The Friends has existed for more than twenty-five years and is organised and run by volunteers. They have successfully raised more than $75,000 through efforts that have included events, memberships, grants and direct donations.

Funds have gone towards conserving and/or restoring items in the Museum’s collection, as well as helping the Museum acquire historic objects. Notable examples include;

  • the conservation and display of Chinese banners,
  • display of the large globe,
  • the fumigation of the taxidermy collection and the extension of the display cabinets,
  • the acquisition of the Falck clocks that were designed and made by 19th century watchmaker, Charles Falck.

The Friends established a trust to administer tax-deductible donations and public funds, (such as grants from Indigo Shire Council or Bendigo Bank). Three trustees administer the trust.

As an incorporated body, the Friends report annually to the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC).
