A number of drainage improvements on High and Ready Streets and Sheridan Bridge Road in Rutherglen commenced in mid-February 2023.
Works to increase the flow capacity of the open earth drain between Sheridans Bridge Road and Ready Street have begun. As part of this project, the unnamed lane to the south is being filled and reshaped with the fill material won from the open earth drain to help provide better outfall drainage to the properties on the low side of High Street.
Similarly, Wallace Lane is also being graded and reshaped to provide increased protection to the properties on the south side of Ready Street.
In conjunction with this work the culvert under Sheridans Bridge Road is being increased in size to reduce the frequency of water flowing across the road in this location and an additional pipe culvert will be provided under Ready Street to convey low flows across the road.
We’re also planning the installation of a cross culvert at the intersection of High Street and Ready Street to provide outfall drainage to the west from this area of High Street and reduce the flows that currently run in the road down Ready Street east of High Street.
