FAQ's

Every year we recognise the people and organisations that are going above and beyond in their community through our Indigo Shire Awards. The following awards open in September annually and are awarded the following year:

  • Indigo Shire Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Organisation of the Year
  • Emma George Junior Sporting Scholarship

Who is eligible to be nominated?

The awards are open to individuals who reside within and groups who conduct their activities within Indigo Shire.

How does someone become nominated?

Anyone can nominate by completing the appropriate category Nomination Form and returning it to Council. Nominations must be accompanied by suitable details to assist the judging panel, which consists of community members from across the shire. An individual or group may be nominated in one category only. All nominations must comply with the General Conditions of Entry, have a nominator and referee and submit the required documentation addressing all areas of the selection criteria.

The nomination form can be found here and at Customer Service Centres from September 1.

What happens once someone is nominated?

The Nomination Form is registered and an email acknowledging receipt of nomination is sent to both the nominator and the nominee. Once nominations close the nomination forms are forwarded to the Indigo Shire Awards Selection Panel. The panel will preside over the nominations and determine the award recipients. Nominees may, at the discretion of the Selection Panel, be transferred to another category.

What is the Emma George Junior Sporting Scholarship?

The scholarship is for Indigo Shire residents aged 12 - 25 who are competing in any feild of sport and are seeking financial assistance in pursuing their sporting activities at Regional, State or National level of competition.

It is well recognised that talented sporting people make great personal and financial sacrifices in order to achieve greater levels of performance in their chosen sport. By providing financial assistance, this scholarship is endeavouring to relieve some of the financial burdens incurred when participating in high-level sport. The fund is under the auspice of the Indigo Shire Council.
