Following the conclusion of the Indigo Destination Gamechanger Tourism Strategy 2018 - 2023, Council is developing a new tourism strategy. The Indigo Destination Management Plan 2025 - 2035 (DMP35) moves beyond sustainable tourism to holistic regeneration.
The DMP35 takes a triple bottom line approach, balancing economic growth, community wellbeing, and environmental stewardship. Rather than simply maintaining Indigo's resources as they are, this plan aims to create a regenerative tourism model that supports local communities, protects and heals the natural environment, and builds a vibrant, strong economy.
Development of the DMP35 includes extensive community consultation, subject matter expert and peer review, ensuring socio-cultural, environmental, and economic factors are fully considered. This approach recognises that today's destinations must be well prepared for tomorrow's challenges, requiring infrastructure and resources that serve residents, visitors, and businesses while addressing emerging issues such as climate change and visitor capacity.
The DMP35 will be released for public exhibition in 2025/2026, ahead of finalisation and adoption by Council.
