Proposed closure part of Hamilton St Rutherglen

On display until 10 August 2026, 05:00 PM

We’re proposing the permanent closure of the southern section of Hamilton Street to vehicular traffic, at the Main Street intersection, in Rutherglen.

Background

As part of the planned footpath works along Main Street Rutherglen (connecting the recently constructed Glenview facility), we are undertaking consultation to support the proposal to close the southern unsealed (dirt) section of Hamilton Street, at the Main Street intersection, in Rutherglen.

Proposed action

Council is now considering the permanent closure of this section of Hamilton Street to vehicular traffic. Under this proposal:

  • Vehicular access along Hamilton Street will still be possible, however the proposed closure would permanently restrict vehicles from entering and exiting Hamilton Street at the Main Street intersection.
  • Pedestrian access would be maintained.
  • Cyclist access would be maintained.
  • Other foot traffic would continue as normal.

Consultation process

Council has already consulted with:

  • Adjacent landowners in the immediate vicinity.
  • Emergency services.

We’re now seeking feedback from the broader community on this proposed permanent closure.

Making a submission

Any person wishing to make a submission on the proposal must do so in writing by 5pm 10 August, 2026. Submissions must be addressed to the CEO and received via email info@indigoshire.vic.gov.au or mail to PO Box 28 Beechworth VICTORIA 3747 on the nominated date.
