A tender for almost $600,000 to construct Stage 2 of the Epic Mountain Bike Track between Yackandandah and Beechworth has been awarded to Trailscapes Pty Ltd.
Stage 2 of the track will connect the existing Yack Tracks Trail network in the Stanley State Forest via Nine Mile Creek Heritage Area to Beechworth Historic Park and will see the construction of new single track and the renewal of existing tracks.
Once complete, the entire project will meet the International Mountain Bike Association criteria for an “Epic Trail” – a challenging, backcountry, single track experience greater than 32km and will be the only all season Epic Trail in Australia.
The project is jointly funded by the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions grant scheme and Council.
Mayor Bernard Gaffney says the trail is a brilliant drawcard for locals and tourists alike and in particular, will be a great attraction that will support the Shire’s recovering tourism industry.
Construction of Stage 2 is due to begin in January 2022 and due to be completed in June 2022.
