Council has made the decision not to present a report on the Beechworth Childcare and Kindergarten Expression of Interest (EOI) process at Monday night's Council meeting (23 June).
This decision has been made to allow the current mediation process between Beechworth Community Early Years Learning Centre and Beechworth Kindergarten to proceed without interference. The mediation is scheduled for this weekend (22 June), and we believe it's important that this process can occur free from the potential influence of a Council recommendation.
Council is aware of the stress and uncertainty this ongoing situation is placing on families, staff, employers of parents, and our broader community. We understand that the continued delays have significant implications for current operations and future planning for early years services in Beechworth.
Following the recent and unfortunate withdrawal of Alpine Children's Services, Council finds itself in an unprecedented situation. While the EOI evaluation process remains live and its outcomes relevant, we are keeping all options open as we work toward the best outcome for our community.
Our priority remains the same, we want to ensure the delivery of quality early years services that meet the needs of current and future Beechworth families and reduces existing waiting lists. We are particularly interested in hearing from the existing tenants if they can present a cooperative proposal that aligns with the original intentions of the EOI process.
Council intends to consider this matter at either the July Council meeting or at a special Council meeting once the outcomes of the mediation process are known.
We thank the community for their patience during this challenging time and remain committed to finding a solution that serves the best interests of families and children using these vital services.
