Bed and breakfasts

Most land use zones in Indigo Shire do not require a planning permit to use land for a Bed and Breakfast if the following requirements are met:

  • People are accommodated within your home;
  • No more than ten (10) people can be accommodated on site at one time;
  • The Bed and Breakfast must provide temporary accommodation for people away from their normal place of residence; and
  • At least one car parking space must be provided on site for every two people (e.g. if you can have six guests at one time you need at least three spaces).

It is important to remember that if you need to extend or construct any buildings or carry out any works for the Bed and Breakfast (e.g. making the car park), you may need a planning permit for this development.

You may also need a food registration and building permit from Council if you are thinking of setting up a Bed and Breakfast from your home.
