Indigo Shire Council today released the Wahgunyah Railway Land Draft Masterplan for community comment.
The draft plan has been developed by the Wahgunyah Railway Land Development Committee, an advisory committee to Council, following extensive consultation with the community.
It outlines plans for the land on Victoria Street in Wahgunyah, with an emphasis on remembering local history and providing a space that fosters a sense of community, including opportunities for outdoor fitness and adventure play.
The draft masterplan showcases local plants with a focus on climate change adaptation and a strong link with the natural environment. It also includes a storm water management system, additional car parking and walking tracks.
Indigo Shire Mayor Cr Bernard Gaffney said the development of this land is a priority for the Wahgunyah community.
“This project has been driven by a passionate group of local residents and I commend them for their work,” Cr Gaffney said.
The Wahgunyah Railway Land is owned by VicTrack and is managed by Council under a long-term lease.
Following community feedback, Council will work with the Wahgunyah Railway Land Development Committee to investigate funding opportunities for the long-term implementation of the Masterplan.
