The draft Barnawartha Structure Plan has been prepared to investigate the future land use, growth and development of Barnawartha and considers opportunities for the future of the town. The plan coordinates planning for land use, urban design, transport and movement networks and other identified issues for the future of Barnawartha.
The revised draft Barnawartha Structure Plan(PDF, 21MB) is now on public exhibition. Council is inviting the community to consider the revised details and recommendations and provide feedback.
In 2018, Indigo Shire Council released the draft Barnawartha Structure Plan and invited comment from the community and other stakeholders. A number of changes to the draft Structure Plan have been made in response to the community and stakeholder feedback including:
The recommendation for investigating the Special Use Zone and Light Industrial area to the south of Barnawartha has been removed.
A stronger emphasis is made in relation to maintaining residential character, expressing community feedback for retaining Barnawartha with a ‘rural village’ character.
The plan encourages the existing residential densities of the town to be the target for any new growth.
Recommendations for the town centre are simplified to indicate only general principles for possible future improvements.
Based on consultation with the CFA over a number of months, additional detailed recommendations are included for bushfire protection including defendable space on the egdes of the town to ensure that newdevelopment can achieve a BAL 12.5 standard, in accordance with state policies.
Recommendations for improvements to Havelock Road entry is retained, including creation of pedestrian paths and links to the town centre and more broadly to the Indigo Valley.
