Changing Places provide suitable facilities for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets, and allows people with high support needs to fully participate in the community.

We are seeking community feedback on whether you would like to see these facilities in Indigo Shire, and where they could be best placed.

Funding opportunities are available if we are able to clearly show that there is community support and demonstrated need for a Changing Places facility.

The facilities can support people with an acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, and motor neurone disease, as well as many other people with a disability. Having a Changing Places facility supports people with a disability to participate in travel and recreation, knowing that their needs will be met.

Changing Places facilities provide:

  • a height-adjustable adult-sized change table
  • a constant-charging ceiling track hoist system
  • a centrally-located peninsula toilet
  • circulation spaces as defined in the design specifications
  • an automatic door with a clear opening of 950 mm at a minimum (1100 mm for beach and lake locations)
  • a privacy screen

What's next?

To be eligible to apply for grant funding for these types of facilities, we needed to clearly show that there is community support and demonstrated need. Through your valuable input, we will be able to show overwhelming support for these facilities which will go a long way to helping us complete this important funding application.

We will be applying for the grant funding through the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing as soon as applications open and we'll keep you up to date on the outcome.
