Mudeye Lures, Chiltern

Shaun Bowdler has been hooked on making his business a success since he took over Mudeye Lures at Chiltern 18 months ago.

The business has been operating for 30 years and Shaun jumped at the opportunity to buy it when it came on the market.

He has a background in carpentry and motor mechanics, which has helped his transition to making the handmade timber lures.

Shaun has a back injury, so this was something he could do with his hands for long periods of time.

He says it took six months to get really good at it.

It’s no secret Shaun loves Murray Cod fishing, so he’s pretty happy to working in the industry.

Each lure takes about an hour to make, first tuning it on the lath, then painting and putting together by hand.

The lures are made from a Malaysian rubber wood for buoyancy, lightness and durability.

He is assisted by his father-in-law Arnie Leitch and wife Beth in running the business.
