HELPING her Mum recover her fitness from open-heart surgery to running a full time gym, Suzanne McIntosh is keeping Yackandandah residents on their toes.

Suzanne left a successful career in industrial relations and human resources behind to become a full-time personal trainer.

“I had always been very interested in my own fitness and after Mum had her surgery and needed to participate in a post health program, I started to run an exercise group for her and some other older ladies,” she said.

From one class per week run out of her garage to now on average 20 classes and a purpose built gym, Fitness4U has become one of the most respected training centres in the Indigo Shire.

“It was always something I was passionate about and wanted to do,” she said.

“From helping my Mum out to now having full classes, we have moved to our gym known as The Workshop.”

Suzanne said Fitness4U not only offered personal training but also pilates, yoga, boxing, strength training and toning classes.

Suzanne said she had noticed an influx of mature aged people becoming more in tune with their health.

“I think people are starting to realise they are suffering from little niggles or ailments or maybe they have had a bone density test and the results were not great or they realise they are not as healthy and active as the want to be,” she said.

“We also cater for the busy Mums as we encourage them to bring their kids along to certain classes.

“It’s often the best therapy that you can get, to interact with others and have some physical exercise which helps physically and mentally.”

She said the physical training often turned to some members having a coffee and catch-ups after class.

“It is a holistic way of training with fitness and friendship,” she said.
