Indigo Shire has been awarded grant funding through the Victorian Government’s Onsite Domestic Wastewater Management (ODWM) program to improve and strengthen its onsite wastewater planning and management processes.
This funding is designed to address gaps in knowledge that have limited the ability of some Councils to develop and implement effective ODWM plans and to achieve the following outcomes:
- Improve data about management of onsite wastewater systems across Victoria and
- Improve risk assessment approaches in ODWM plans reducing domestic wastewater management issues which will improve the health of water environments and communities.
Council will be using the grant to investigate opportunities to improve wastewater management in special catchment areas and Stanley has been identified as a key location for research.
Key actions of the project will involve reporting on existing systems within the township area to assess risks and possible risk reduction activities and to inform future strategic planning for Stanley.
Legislation requires that councils develop and review a domestic wastewater management plan (DWMP) and data gathered will be used to meet its obligations in this regard.
Council has appointed Dave McAuliffe Plumbing to conduct the systems inspections in the township area and is seeking your consent to provide him with your property and contact information so that he can liaise directly with you about arranging an inspection at your property.
We have developed an online consent form, which you can access below. Alternatively, you can call Sally McDonald on 0427 299306 or email sally.mcdonald@indigoshire.vic.gov.au to provide authorisation.
Once we have your consent, Dave McAuliffe will contact you, or you may contact him, to arrange a suitable time for the onsite inspection. Details are:

We recommend that owners be present at the time of the inspection if possible. Please let us know if your property is tenanted, so that we can ensure that the occupier has adequate notification.
When the inspection is completed and submitted, you will be provided with a copy of the inspection report for your records. We remind you that this project is grant funded, so there is no cost to owners for inspections and reporting. Please provide your email address if you wish to receive your report via email.
We hope to complete inspections by the end of April 2023.
