Council awards $25,000 through the Get Active Indigo Grant Program
Published on 30 June 2021
Indigo Shire Council has awarded $25,000 in funding to various sporting organisations throughout the Shire through its Get Active Indigo Grants Program.
The program, which has been running for two years (after the 2019/2020 round was cancelled due to COVID restrictions), provides financial assistance to local clubs and organisations developing innovative programs to get the people of the Shire active and moving more often.
Ten organisations across the Shire will share in the funding which will see a range of initiatives implemented including projects that address the provision of appropriate sportswear to encourage kids to be involved in sport, the provision of additional safety equipment to promote inclusiveness and participation and the introduction of programs that specifically target female and senior participation.
A total of $30,000 funding was available, however, due to the fund being undersubscribed and one application not funded, the Evaluation Panel (made up of one Councillor, three Council Officers and a representative from Sport North East) recommended to Council that the remaining $5000 be transferred to the 2021/22 Community Grants Program.
This recommendation will allow for a dedicated ‘sport equipment’ fund to be established for one year only and the unfunded application was recommended to apply for this funding.
