We've successfully secured funding through the Victorian Government Investment Fast Track Fund to develop a concept for a landmark, high profile and aesthetically beautiful Destination Playspace for Chiltern and we're seeking your input to help develop the plans.
The playspace discussion will focus on spaces around the Chiltern Goods Shed, the Lake Anderson precinct and creating connections to the town centre via Martins Park for the enjoyment of visitors and the local community alike.
Background
Community consultation carried out for the tourism strategy development during 2017 and 2018 identified the Hume Freeway as a significant opportunity for tourism development in Chiltern.
The Chiltern Destination Playspace project will be a landmark and high-profile drawcard for Chiltern, a “must-stop” experience, for families travelling along the Hume, and will become an important driver of economic activity as well as a significant family-friendly tourism attraction for the town and the High Country region more broadly.
Best of all, not only will the this playspace encourage visitors to the area, but locals will be able to enjoy it all year round.
The project is centred around three key interconnected hubs – a playground, water playspace and a pump track at the good shed area, which will reflect different themes of Chiltern including the Chiltern Mount Pilot National Park, First Nations History, Gold mining history, Ride and Rail and more.
It will deliver a fully costed masterplan with concept designs, planning, construction and investment strategy which will be used to seek funding to implement the plan.
This builds on the feasibility study and business case delivered by Council in 2020.
