An Introduction

It is important to distinguish between a planning permit and a building permit, and the roles of planners and building surveyors/inspectors.

Building

A building permit is required if it is proposed to demolish, build or alter a building.

Planning

Planning controls the use and development of all land in Victoria through regulations as set out in the Planning and Environment Act 1987 as well as the Planning Scheme.
