Wahgunyah trail open

December 2005

Indigo Shire Council is pleased to inform visitors and residents in the region the Wahgunyah walking and cycling trail is open for Christmas and the New Year.

This is a joint Corowa and Indigo Shire Council venture and the $20,000 trail is an integral part of the Federation Bridge project but until now has been delayed due to the wet spring.

Indigo Shire Council Mayor Cr Peter Graham said the trail was a wonderful asset to both Indigo Shire and Corowa Shire and was ready for people to use over the holiday season.

He said previously this trail had not been accessible but now opened up the area along the magestic Murray River over summer.

“This has been made possible through preliminary grading works to open up the trail from Barkly Street, Wahgunyah to the Federation Bridge,” he said.

“The 2.5 km trail will be completed early in the New Year with the placement of gravel and installation of drainage works. Bollards and interpretive signs will also be added to enhance the trail.

“This now provides a circuit from Corowa through Wahgunyah to the Federation Bridge and back to Corowa.

“I encourage people to pack a picnic, put on the walking shoes or get the bikes out for a fabulous family activity in the Shire.”
