Rutherglen Road Closure request
June 2006
Indigo Shire Council has received a request to close Hopetoun Road in Rutherglen to through traffic between Nash’s Road and South of Campbell Street.
Indigo Shire Council Operations Manager Mr David Runnalls said it was considered the closure would eliminate the use of Hopetoun Road as a short cut by heavy traffic and eliminate a lot of dust.
He said the proposed closure would include two sets of barricades being placed across Hopetoun Road just to the north of Nash’s Road and to the South of the Campbell Street, with associated signage.
“Council considered the request for closure at its ordinary meeting on the May 9 and wanted to make sure that residents in the area of the closure were made aware off the proposal and were to be consulted via a letter drop,” he said.
“This is in accordance with procedures set out in the Local Government Act 1989.
“Residents are invited to make their own written submission, returning them to Council in the reply paid envelope by the 30th June 2006.
“Resident feedback will greatly assist Council’s decision making. Council will also be undertaking some traffic counts to ascertain the impact on other local roads if the road closure proceeds. ”
If people wish to make a verbal submission to Council, they must state their intent to do so in their written submission and Council will advise of the time, date and place where the verbal submission may be made.
