Indigo Shire DrumMuster
May 2006
Indigo Shire farmers will have the opportunity to dispose of farm chemical containers with a drum muster being held in Rutherglen on Tuesday 24 October.
Indigo Shire Council Waste Management Officer Mr Mark Greene said the muster was a free service to enable farmers to safely dispose of containers from their farms that often contained dangerous chemicals.
He said the containers would be collected from the Rutherglen Transfer Station on Monday and all containers would need to be inspected before being accepted for removal.
“The first step to the safe disposal of these chemical containers is to ensure they are properly rinsed and cleaned by farmers and they need to ensure the containers are rinsed at least three times,” he said.
“Farmers need contact Indigo Shire Council to let us know how many containers they will be bringing in as the process of inspecting each container can take a long time especially if they bring in many.
“Only containers bearing the drum muster logo are eligible for collection.
“This service is a great way for farmers to ensure they are clearing their properties of these chemical containers that could pose a risk to animals and children.”
Indigo Shire Council actively encourages recycling through a comprehensive service and supports composting practices.
