Health Premises
Council aims to minimise the incidence or spread of infectious disease through the administration and enforcement of the Health Act 1958 and Health (Infectious Diseases) Regulations 2001. Council registers and inspects hairdressers, beauticians, and other premises performing skin penetration procedures to ensure they are following the correct hygienic practices.
(a) Setting up a new health premises
Should you wish to establish a new premises you should first contact Council’s Planning Department for any requirements. Any proposed Building works will also require the approval of Council’s Building Department. A registration application form, fee and details are to be provided to Council’s Environmental Health Department to complete an assessment for approval.
(b) Buying an existing hair, beauty, skin penetration premises
An application and appropriate fee is required to transfer the registration of the premises.

Prescribed Accommodation Premises
Motels, bed and breakfast establishments, boarding houses and other accommodation facilities are registered and inspected by Council under the Health (Prescribed Accommodation) Regulations 2001. For further information on the requirements you can view a copy of the regulations at
