Animal registrations

Registering domestic animals.

All dogs and cats over three months of age must be registered with the Council.  Once your dog or cat is registered and remains in your care, you must continue to keep your dog or cat registered each year and also ensure the correct Council identification number is worn by your pet.  Council no longer issues plastic tags with re-registration notices.   As an alternative, the Council offers a low-price indentification disc which can have Fido's or Fifi's address, contact number and name as well as the Indigo Shire Council registration details engraved on it. As these tags have no expiry date owners may continue to use this tag for as long as they wish.

Losing a pet can be distressing for the owners and the animal.  Correct tags and current registration will help Council in contacting you should we locate a lost pet.

The Ranger will undertake regular door-knocks of premises to ensure that all animals are registered.

Penalties for failing to renew or register your animal can be in excess of $535.
