Free green waste disposal
Indigo Shire Council is providing two free green waste disposal weekends for residents, before and after the state-wide Fire Action Week on October 11 to 18.
Fire Action Week is a whole-of-Victoria effort to encourage people to prepare for the bushfire season – a state-wide working bee to minimise fire risk.
Indigo’s Waste Management Officer Mark Greene said the Council was providing the additional green waste services to help residents clean up around their homes before the coming bushfire season.
“Residents can bring their trailer loads of green waste, such as garden clippings, leaf litter and tree prunings to the Beechworth and Rutherglen Transfer Stations, and the former Chiltern and Yackandandah Transfer Stations on Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11, and Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18,” Mr Greene said.
Dates and times for green waste collections are:
Saturday 10 October
Yackandandah – former transfer station, Steel Road – 8am-12 noon.
Chiltern – former transfer station, Chiltern/Rutherglen Road – 8am – 12 noon.
Rutherglen – transfer station, Cornishtown Road – 1pm – 5pm
Beechworth – transfer station, Diffey Road – 1pm – 5pm.

Indigo Shire has been working with the CFA and the Department of Sustainability and Environment to help residents prepare for the coming bushfire season and the extra green waste disposal services are part of that initiative.
