The Victorian Minister for Families & Children and Youth Affairs, Jenny Mikakos, today formally launched the Chiltern Early Years Hub.

Accompanied by the Indigo Shire Mayor, Cr Jenny O'Connor, she turned the first sod on the site of the $320,000 Stage One development.

Indigo Shire Council in conjunction with the Department of Education and Training and the Community Early Years Childcare will upgrade the Chiltern Municipal building located opposite the existing Chiltern Kindergarten.

The upgrade will include the extension and refurbishment of the existing building to create a Chiltern Early Years Hub to be operated by CEYC. The new facility will increase the provision of high quality early learning programs in Chiltern to enable a capacity for 33 children.

"This has been an exciting day for Chiltern and for Indigo Shire," Cr O'Connor said.

"This vibrant, youthful community has come together to endorse the Chiltern Placemaking and Structure Plan, a far-sighted vision for a bold future."

Cr O'Connor said the the Chiltern Early Years Hub "marked our community's commitment to ensuring the best facilities, the best people, and the best outcomes for our future generations".

Cr O'Connor said work would begin on Stage One almost immediately.

"Design work is being finalised, and tenders will be called next week.

"The Chiltern Placemaking Plan sets a growth target of 2% a year for the town and its surrounds, and there are already provisions for Stages Two and Three of the Children's Hub to cater for what I am sure will become one of Indigo Shire's success stories.

"This has been truly a team effort; truly a Chiltern Community driven success story."
