Iconic Regatta welcomes you

One of the nation's most iconic sporting events will once again grace Lake Moodemere, Wahgunyah, this weekend, where more than 700 competitors will gather for the 152nd Murray Rowing Association Annual Rowing Regatta.

The event, Australia’s oldest rowing regatta, has been growing in strength over the decades and continues to draw huge interest from across Victoria and interstate rowers.

The regatta predates the Melbourne Cup. It can trace its origins back to the first races between paddle steamer boatmen at the Port of Wahgunyah. The regatta established Lake Moodemere as its base in the 1860s.

Racing commences at 8am on Saturday, January 13 and 7am on Sunday, January 14 with races scheduled every three minutes.

The feature event is the 500m Victorian Sprint Championships on Sunday. The sprint championships include the single scull, double scull, quad scull, pair, four and eights for both male and female crews.

Competitors range in age from 10 to 87, and includes Neville Howell, who rowed in the Australian Eight in the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games.

Entry to the event is free and all are welcome to come along to witness one of the region’s largest sporting events. Refreshments will be available at the event.
