Alpine Health to deliver State program

Not-for-profit provider Alpine Health will now deliver services in the Home and Community Care - Program for Younger People (HACC/PYP) to Indigo Shire residents from 1 July, as well as the home support program administered through the Commonwealth Government.

Following Indigo Shire's decision to relinquish community care services, the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services has advised Indigo Shire Council that Alpine Health will deliver the Home and Community Care - Program for Younger People for residents under 65 and Aboriginal and Islander residents under 50 in Indigo Shire from 1 July 2018. The program for this age group is administered by the Victorian Government.

Earlier this week the Commonwealth Department of Health announced it had appointed Alpine Health to deliver the Commonwealth Home Support Program for clients over 65 and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents over 50.

Alpine Health has formed an alliance with Indigo Shire-based Beechworth Health Service and relationships with Yackandandah Health and Indigo North Health to take on both the State and Commonwealth programs.

Indigo Shire Mayor Cr Jenny O'Connor said that it was important that people understood Council will continue to deliver these services until the end of June 2018.

Cr O'Connor said Council will work with Alpine Health over the coming months to make the change easier for clients and carers. Letters will be sent to clients and carers about the appointment of the new provider.

"From now until 1 July we will work with Alpine Health for a seamless handover of services which will include domestic assistance, meals, transport, and personal care, among others," she said.

"Importantly, our support will continue beyond 1 July. Our Transition Co-ordinator will continue to support Alpine Health as they take on delivery of these services."

Clients and carers can continue to use the Indigo Shire number 1300 365 003 for service related queries until 30 June, 2018.
