Council accommodation project
Council's office accommodation project is nearing completion. The new office in Yackandandah, which incorporates a new library, opened in October 2014.
Council bought The Pines building at Mayday Hills in Beechworth for its Beechworth office and work on refurbishing that site is under way. It is expected to be ready to occupy in March 2015.
A brief outline of the project is below:
Council resolved to buy The Pines, at its July 2013 meeting, for $500,000 from the new Indigo Shire owners of Mayday Hills, George Fendyk and Geoff Lucas.
- Council will maintain the roads within Mayday Hills so these will remain open to the public, ensuring access to the historic gardens and grounds for everyone.
- The Yackandandah office and library accommodates 34 staff.
- The services that are available in Yackandandah are planning, building, natural resources, environmental health, local laws, arts, youth, community development, recreation, Home and Community Care.
- Currently the 17 infrastructure and operations staff located in Ardsville, next to the new Yackandandah office, will remain there until The Pines in Beechworth is ready. They will then relocate to The Pines.
Council has received a grant towards the relocation of the Beechworth Library into the current administration office in Ford Street.Council will maintain a customer service presence in the Ford Street building when the rest of the staff move to The Pines.
