Youth Voice

We are in the process of finalizing a new youth voice model which will target both primary and secondary school aged people in the Shire. Details of the new Youth Ambassador program coming soon - stay tuned!

Youth Strategy

Work has commenced on Indigo Shire's Youth Strategy 2018-22. The Strategy will bring together the various streams of activity in the youth sector including how we focus activities through our funding from Engage and Freeza programs, how we deliver mental health initiatives and reach older youth who have left school, as well as how we can deliver outcomes aligned with the Youth Consultation project and the goals in the Council Plan.

Action Crews

Youth Officer Sal Kimber has established action crews in Rutherglen, Tangambalanga and Beechworth working on a wide range of youth-directed projects. Our Youth Officer will be establishing a Chiltern Youth Action crew in Term 2 of 2018 and a Barnawartha Youth Action Crew in Term 3. This new town-community centric approach to engaging young people and building leadership and advocacy skill development is proving very successful.

Youth Mental Health Initiative

Indigo Shire and Headspace are partnering to create a Shire wide proactive Youth Mental Health Initiative. One of the first actions from the partnership will be offering free Youth Mental Health First Aid training to key people in Indigo Shire who work with and or have regular contact with young people. The first training will be hosted over two days in Yackandandah: Sunday April 29 and Sunday May 6. We have 20 positions available for this first round of free training, with spots being filled quickly by eager local junior football, netball and hockey coaches, scout leaders, junior CFA program leaders etc. The second round of free training will be hosted by Indigo Shire in Chiltern over four Tuesday evenings proposed for June 2018.
