Community Connectors

What is a Community Connector?

Community Connectors are volunteers across the Indigo Shire who are trained as ‘go to’ people to help local people find support in their own communities and wider.

Community Connectors link local people and the services and activities that are available to support health and wellbeing of community members.

Community Connectors direct people to available services and activities such as:

  • Health Services
  • Community groups
  • Transport
  • Housing
  • Residential & respite care
  • Help at home

Community Connectors are:

  • People with good communication and listening skills.
  • Those who are interested in finding out about what is available in their community and would like to pass this information on.
  • Available to chat over the phone, via email or in person.

Community Connectors do not become involved in the affairs of any person, they simply direct people to services and activities.

Community Connectors will:

  • Be registered volunteers of Beechworth Health Service, Indigo North Health or Yackandandah Health.
  • Complete a criminal record check.
  • Receive training and support.
  • Work within a position description that sets out of what is expected of them and the program boundaries.

Who is the Community Connector program for?

The Community Connectors program is free for residents of Indigo Shire to access. The program is for people who would like to find out about what is available in their community to support ageing well.

Community Connectors may benefit those who:

  • Live alone
  • Are new to the Indigo Shire area
  • Do not have access to the internet
  • Live in remote areas

Why do we need Community Connectors?

We all need to access services, supports and activities at some time in our life. The more people there are that know about the support that is available in the community, the better we can all support each other.

There are great services in our Indigo Shire Communities and beyond but sometimes people don't know about them.

To become a volunteer Community Connector please contact your closest health service and ask to speak to the Volunteer Coordinator.
