Health premises
Skin Penetration and Beauty Premises
Indigo Shire Council's Environmental Health Unit is committed to protect and promote the public health and wellbeing of all communities within the municipality through the monitoring of all Public Health and Wellbeing Act Premises including businesses where hairdressing, beauty therapy, electrolysis and skin penetration procedures are carried out either on the premises or from a mobile operation. Council annually registers all such businesses and inspects the facilities to ensure that they operate in accordance with guidelines produced by the Department of Health.
This is important as unsafe or unhygienic practices within commercial businesses can affect the health of clients, the health of the operator and can aid in the spread of infectious disease.
All new hairdressing, skin penetration, tattooing, beauty therapy, ear piercing and electrolysis businesses must register with Indigo Shire Council before beginning operation. This process involves submitting plans and specifications, completing a registration application form, and undergoing a final inspection before the new business can begin operating.
