NDIS Information

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (The NDIS) supports people with permanent and significant disability, their families and carers.

It is a new way for people to get disability support that takes an individualised approach to providing care and support over a person’s lifetime.

The NDIS will roll out in the Indigo shire area from 1 October 2017.

how do I engage in the NDIS?

  • If you already receive supports from the Victorian or Commonwealth Governments, you will be contacted by an NDIS representative when it is time to transition to the NDIS. This includes people who are waiting for supports on the Victorian Disability Support Register and Early Childhood Intervention Services.
  • If you are not currently receiving supports, live in the Indigo shire area and think you may meet the access requirements for the NDIS, contact the National Disability Insurance Agency on 1800 800 110.
  •  By visiting the NDIS Website and by calling 1800 800 110
  •  and then engaging Local Area Coordination (LAC). The LAC for the Indigo shire is  Latrobe Community Health Services (6-65 years) and

Merri Community Health Service (0-6 years)

What is Local Area Coordination?

Local area coordination (LAC) involves preparing communities for the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), through outreach, workshops and community engagement. Latrobe Community Health Service  and Merri Community Health Service works to connect people living with a disability to informal and natural supports that are already available in the community, They do this by:

  •  Providing assistance with the planning process, and ensuring plans are implemented effectively.
  •  Working with the community and service providers to build inclusion and awareness of the needs of people with disability.
