The Historic Precinct, Beechworth

Beechworth Historic Precinct

Council is seeking motivated and reliable people with excellent communication and customer service skills to join the Historic Precinct's expanding team of Volunteers. The volunteers will assist in the key aspects of the Historic Precinct's daily operations, supporting staff within the Precinct's historic buildings. These include the Burke Museum, the historic Courthouse and the Telegraph Station.

These positions would be especially suitable for applicants who have or wish to gain experience in the Museum or Tourism Industry. It is desirable that the potential applicants have experience in customer service and a keen interest in local history or museum practice. Induction and training will be offered to the successful volunteers.

The Historic Precinct is one of Beechworth's major tourist attractions. Volunteers of the Beechworth Historic Precinct are highly valued by the community of Beechworth and help provide residents and visitors with a rich sense of cultural wealth and excellence.

Yackandandah Visitor Information Centre

Do you enjoy helping people learn about our wonderful area, attractions and activities? Yackandandah Visitor Information Centre would love to invite you to the team. Full training is provided with updates, outings and plenty of local knowledge. The Visitor Information Centre is in the main street of Yackandandah in the historic Old Post Office and is open from 10am to 4pm daily.

Event Committees Seeking Volunteers

Golden Horseshoes Festival

If you are interested in volunteering in any of the roles below at the Golden Horseshoes Festival, contact committee member Jackie Vetter

Volunteers Required

 Site Control

Volunteers can help out all day or hours between 9-11am or 4-6pm.

  • Assist with car parking control.
  • Provide directions to stallholders, performers, volunteers.
  • Assist with gate control.
  • Assist in safe parking in temporary parking for stallholders.
  • Monitor pedestrian safety.
  • Safely control exiting vehicles.
  • Parade marshalling (between 12-2pm)
  • Parade monitoring (between 1.30 - 3pm).

Set-up and Pack Down

Volunteers can help out all day or hours between 8-10am or 4-6pm.

  • Setup with stages, backdrops.
  • Setup chairs, tables.
  • Pickup gear from storage locations.
  • Put up programmes at venues on boards.
  • Remove stages, backdrops, stack chairs.


 Green Folk Team

Volunteers can help out all day or in 2 hour shifts throughout the day.

  • Encourage correct use of the compostable, recycling and landfill bins.
  • Rove on foot to keep the site clean.
  • Place signage around the festival.
  • Collect and replace the bins.
  • Monitor waste input to ensure contamination is kept to a minimum.
  • Get green and dirty sometimes!
  • Remind your team and yourself to work safely. 

 Festival Kiosk

Volunteers can help out all day or in 2 hour shifts throughout the day.

  • Meet and greet patrons.
  • Distribute festival programs.
  • Promote other festival programmes.
  • Provide general information.
  • Maintain message board.

 Stalls team.

On the day, volunteers are each allocated a section of stalls to supervise and will have support from the stalls coordinator.

  • Meet and greet stallholders
  • Insure access to weights, power and waste disposal and monitor stalls WHS compliance checklist.
  • Post festival, supervise stall departures, checking stall sites are left clean and clear.

Kids Zone

Volunteers are required on the day all day or in shifts.

  • Supervise games and crafts for kids helping to make their festival experience a happy one.
  • Looking after the setup and pack down of the space.
  • Assisting parents with any requirements they have while visiting the space.
  • Keeping the area clean and tidy and replenishing supplies as needed.

 Marketing, Media and Sponsorship

Volunteer required on the day and in the lead up to the event.

  • Greet VIP's and Media and assist Marketing Manager.
  • Provide information or a guided tour.
  • Assist media to organiser photo ops or interviews.
  • Investigate possible media stories or photo ops.


Volunteers required on the day at various times.

  • Install directional signage and all signage to toilets.
  • Car parking signage.
  • Install signage around festival site.
  • Install and pack down sponsorship signage.
  • Clean and sort all existing signage.
